Response from Miss Laura Hamilton

Thank you so much this lovely review. It is very kind of you to leave some nice feedback and I’m glad you are happy with your care. This summarises exactly who I want to be as a doctor so I am very happy that you felt this way.

Specialises in

  • Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery

Profile

Consultant Surgeon in Trauma & Orthopaedics, based at University Hospitals Sussex in Brighton and Hayward’s Heath. Specialising in hand and wrist elective and trauma surgery. I receive complex tertiary referrals from all over the South of England including thumb base, wrist and finger joint replacements. I also manage major polytrauma cases involving massive hand and wrist injuries to nerves, bones and tendons.

I was elected to the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, which overseas and guides 30,000 surgeons. Through this group I sit on multiple committees across NHS England initiatives as well as the Academy of Royal Medical Colleges.

I was appointed to the T&O Selection Design Group which Interviews and appoints all ST3 Orthopaedic Surgeons at a National level, choosing the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.

I have published research and presented internationally about hand surgery, as well as the advantages of improving diversity within surgery, and orthopaedics in particular.

I love to encourage and mentor junior doctors and surgeons. I teach on lots of educational courses and help trainees prepare for exams. I am also a Personal tutor and lecturer for Medical Students at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

I take the time to get a detailed history and understand my patients’ unique concerns and needs. I love to draw pictures to explain a diagnosis and I work with the patient to come up with the best plan for them. There are no hard and fast rules in hand surgery, my care is always very patient specific.
